The East Falls Circular is not just a train station; it's a park for the whole East Falls community. The Circular creates an ADA accessible landmark by activating the entire site, while creating special places like the community garden, play area, and dog park, along the way.
Through gently placed curves, the ramp from Midvale Avenue meanders up the steep incline of the site to the train platform above and picks back up again on the outside of the concrete and glass circular train station, leading up to its green roof terrace. The ramp extends over the two sets of tracks and touches the outbound platform to the north, running parallel to Cresson Street.
The station is integrated with the hill, making the platform level of the station a waiting room and ticket area while pushing the lower level into the hillside, to provide the cafe with better accessibility from the street as well as outdoor seating with views onto Midvale Ave.
The structure of the Circular consists of 8 trusses that extend radially from a central reinforced concrete column. Tapering from the center, the 30 foot steel trusses also support the glass curtain wall. The design of the structure allows for an open plan on the platform level as well as a centralized circulation throughout the building.
