Two hundred and thirty million sim-cards have been registered in Russia, which means that almost everybody has a cell-phone. Mobile communication has become the part of our everyday life. But sometimes it is not enough to have a cell-phone. Besides we should remember about groups of users living in areas poorly or non-provided with network coverage. For these very cases there is a variety of governmental programs aimed at provision under-populated villages with a stationary digital public pay telephone.

Of course old public phone apparatuses are no match to the modern ones. And we were ordered to develop the layout of the most advanced one – a video public payment phone. According to the authors of the idea, the street version of this device will provide the population with the opportunity to make video-calls to each other; the payment will be received with the help of plastic cards, and besides the device will become a Wi-Fi spot.

The complexity of the project lied in the fact that, though the technical task and function of the device were crystal clear, the practical implementation had a lot of challenges. For example we had to place a lot of studding inside the relatively small case, besides the device should have functioned within a very broad range of temperatures. Because videophones are assumed to be settled in any spot of the country – from regions with scorching sun to severe frost areas.
