“Korund” payment terminal

This prototype is one of the projects that make us feel proud.

“Korund” design-engineering bureau had set a challenging goal in front of “FORMLAB” team. We had to produce two fully functioning prototypes of their new development (a portable payment terminal) in not more than two months. And the desire of the client to receive the prototypes as similar to the production item as possible made the task even more complex. Leaping ahead, I want to tell you that we managed to succeed.
Since year 2014 our agency has been engaged in production of the professional prototypes of real production materials – metals and plastics. Such prototypes at times look completely like the serial production cases, but are manufactured by means of milling, poly urethane molding and so on. Last year about two dozens of such prototypes were made, and all of them coped with the task assigned on them – they were to be demonstrated to the demanding public – partners, exhibitions visitors, investors, and to be used in the experiments.

No other way of prototype production can give such high results as this one. And as our clients needed the prototype relatively soon, it was our organization to which they addressed in hope to receive the qualitative result.

But a short deadline is not the only complicity of the project. The problem was in the fact that actually the layout of the device was not completely approved by all the specialists of Korund – they wanted to have both prototype variants – expensive aluminum case design prototype and the cheaper one with the usage of plastics — later on to choose from two of them.

Shortly after the beginning of the project under the high pressure of time, we have developed drafts, made models and printed two blanks in order to check the ergonomics of the model. Two construction designers have been working under the project at the same time, and each of them was responsible for his sample. The work of clients’ specialists was not easier than ours – they had to moderate both developments and create two variants of plate and electronics as well.

It was one of the hardest projects implemented by our company. It was, in fact, sent to try us.
