I made this for our Multimedia 2 Module Project (at Nanyang Academy of the Arts under Mr. Winson). The theme was East meets West. I had three studies using other cultures as reference, but since I wanted to be careful (and not insult the culture per se) I chose my own culture instead.

Modernism + Consumerism + Socio-cultural / Ifugao woman + Pop Art Comic
= Is my rendition of East meets West.
This is the rough sketch, in order to achieve that Pop art (Roy Lichtenstein-esque) effect, I had to simplify the outlines, and clean it a bit.
ROUND 1 (dundundun): I drew it using a Derwent 6B Pencil first, then used a fine marker for the outline.
ROUND 2: I colored it via Adobe Illustrator using Live Bucket tool (Using the Pop art color palette).
ROUND 3: I applied halftone effect to the selected pieces of garment (still using AI).
ROUND 4: I transferred it to Photoshop and put some patterns using Clipping Mask. (You can also do this in Adobe Illustrator, but I want my patterns to be warped, it's easier in PS when you do dizzzz.)
FINAL IMAGE: Using Photoshop again, I added color haftone and old comic book texture to the artwork.
Hope you like it! xx Tricia S.
