8 Folds Of Happiness Exhibition

8 Folds of Happiness is a multi-sensory exhibition that reflects on how values lead to happiness in Japan. In June 2014, 10 design students from Temasek Polytechnic were presented with the opportunity to learn about the crafts and technology of Japan, through the JENESYS 2.0 project organised by JICE and JCC. They travelled to Tokyo and Yamagata Prefecture, absorbing the beauty and wonders they encountered. With the exhibition serving as a sharing platform, their enriching journey can be showcased as well.

Origami is a traditional Japanese craft. One of the most significant icons of Japan is a paper crane, which represents happiness, peace and love. Through a bonding session with their host families, they realised that the simplest number of steps to fold a paper crane is 8.

In these 8 folds, we discovered the 8 aspects of life that bring Japanese happiness.

The 8 folds are: Food, Craft, Technology, Job, Environment, Childhood, Love and Religion.
