Chapman University Commemorative Poster 2015

Chapman University has a commemorative poster each year to present to the student body that announces its new achievements and expansions. This year, Chapman University is partnering with Mark and Jan Hilbert and acquiring their California Scene painting collection. After choosing between 28 different poster designs, Chapman’s president and the Hilberts chose my poster.

To incorporate Chapman’s partnership into the composition, an abstracted version of the window of opportunity, which is Chapman’s logo, is the center of the composition. The painting contained within California is a piece by Phil Dike named “The Grape Pickers.” The painting shows a core theme of California Scene Painting: human interaction with the landscape. The color scheme of the overall poster was taken from the painting: plum, slate blue, and cream. A metallic red ink is used to bring attention to Chapman's branding.
