Wiperglasses. OAKLEY + Designboom, Disruptive by Design Competition
The Wiperglasses is an innovative concept and realistic at the same time focusing on the improvement of Oakley sunglasses to allow the user during rainy days clearing the steam and removing raindrops automatically, improving visibility for the sake of their safety.

Inspired by car wipers and reducing them to size of sunglasses, the Wiperglasses sweeping the glass surface to remove adhering water which prevents proper vision.

The pieces that perform this operation are two elastic small wiper gums which are tightened against the glass and are operated by two small metallic guides each which are embedded to them at their ends.
These metallic guides, those which are at the center of the glasses, slides for a microrails located in the frame at the crystal borders. The other ones, which are at the sides, makes a 90º turn.
The center guides are driven by the "pusher" located on the center of the frame of the glasses, the drive system could be solved by means of an elastic force executed by a nylon yarns or hydraulically or magnetically. In any case the sunglasses will be able to incorporate a small engine in one temple to provide the movement to the system and a small cell battery in the other temple.

The body of the sunglasses shall consist of two parts. The top piece that collects all the aforementioned elements of the Wiperglasses system and a lower part which would be interchangeable, as the same way as the crystals, offering the possibility to the consumer to choose between a wide variety of colors, surface finishes and materials to customize their own sunglasses.

The manufacturing process and materials used for construction don't require nonexisting technologies and could be produced through the manufacturing techniques normally used in the industry nowadays, with molds and plastic injection. This solution is presented as a viable alternative applicable while superhydrophobic materials are developed.
The Wiperglasses is a versatile concept that would be useful for both high-level athletes, as novice or for those people who use it as lifestyle in daily routine, is that which we all have always dreamed of.
