The new masthead for The Vidette.
Top: The old tease
Bottom: The new tease is moved from above the mast head to below. The yellow glow is lost and replaced by defined lines. Also, as the main point of the story tease is to attract readers, the font was made to be more prominent.
Left: Old Font  |  Right: Updated font. Note the thinner letters and harsher edges. Also the bold on the date and volume have been dropped to lose the thick cartoony feel.
The most outdated part of the mast head was the sketch of town's clock. The first decision was to lose the yellow glow and then the sketched clock altogether. I toyed with the idea of taking a picture of the clock to replace the pencil sketch but instead went with the soldier. The soldier is in the town's main park and is considered a town landmark. The new picture on the mast head not only looked better but also encapsulated the town better. Feedback on this change was unanimously positive.
This is the old mast head for the paper, The Vidette. The Vidette is a newspaper that focuses on the Ohio town, Columbus Grove.
