This project was a fascinating look into the high-performance world of elite athletes at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. GSSI was planning an iPad app kiosk to empower their sports scientists to communicate test results and training data to the athletes at the facility.

My time as an amateur bike racer and love of sports science perfectly positioned me to dive into reams of scientific training data and understand essential information, and the tasks and personas of both athlete and scientist.
Rather than dive in and immediately begin creating visuals, I determined that the first step should be to write a complete experience script, which was not available. Based on the outlines provided in the test documents, I created fictional interaction scenarios for the scientists to guide the athletes through their training data. This provided a perfect backdrop for detailed user experience efforts to follow (some by other parties).
In this and other examples, I show how layered and related information can be used to help athletes understand their optimum training thresholds for effort, diet, and other factors to support their performance goals (such as strength, speed, endurance, or aerobic capacity).
The spare grayscale style was used to give some design direction without getting bogged down in any particular Gatorade brand style. These were rapidly mocked up in Adobe Illustrator, and notes were provided for animation possibilities.
The client liked the "wireframe" style so much, there was not much talk of restyling. It fit with some of the lean, "flat", spartan aesthetic the client was looking for.
Based on the experience script, I broke the app into logical sections, with each section able to scroll vertically to show as much information as needed.
