XXI is an ambitious album. As artistic directors we shared the very first gestation of it, so the entire project took nearly two years for us. It's important to know that XXI is meant to be an age document for tango's evolution. Conceived as a collection of unpublished contemporary (composed after year 2000) works by the most talented young tango artists in Argentina. Agustín Guerrero is one of them, and his orchestra performed an strict, and very modern interpretation of these composers work on each piece they've recorded. So, as this is not an album about it's interpreters, we understood it mnight not include any of them on it's artwork, we've worked with pictures of a cat instead. At the same time, it is not a revisionist album so design must not be retro styled; conversely, it needed to be as modern as it could without losing it's coherence on the gender.
