This sculpture investigated the principles of ballance. It also plays on peoples assumptions and helps emphasize how something small can make a large difference.
In this piece I suspended a 150 pound anvil using a chain hoists on one end of a metal bar. The modified bar had a pivot point that was connected to an overhead crane. I then attached a series of telescoping rods to the other side of the bar which acted as a fulcrum. The bars were then adjusted so they allowed the weight of the penny to lift the anvil off the floor and keep the entire assembley in ballance.
