This project explored the world of narrative illustration through depicting a Madlib phrase. In lieu of concept, as narrative illustration usually requires the designer to simply depict the scene in the most interesting way possible, the basic elements image-making were observed: composition, perspective, color palette, line quality, etc.

We were encouraged to be adventurous in our choice of medium. I decided to try improving my skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop by working digitally.

My randomly generated Madlib was "Big Brother ferociously eats curly fries." Conceptually, I was inspired by the Big Brother figure from the book 1984 by George Orwell, and the corresponding slogan, "Big Brother is watching you." I decided to depict Big Brother as a somewhat personified eyeball bursting out of a straightforward propoganda poster. To further insinuate perspective and create a visually interesting experience, I created a halftone filter on the figure and the curly fries in Photoshop, inspired by the pop art work of Roy Lichtenstein. Everything was entirely hand-drawn in Illustrator.
