Downton Primary School is a 210 place 1 form of entry primary school set in the rural village of Downton, Wiltshire. The main school building is a Grade 2 listed Victorian building dating from 1895.
Footprint Architects were appointed to design an outdoor classroom at the rear of the school leading on to the playground for the Reception classrooms.
The proposals include modification to the listed gable facade to provide access into the Reception classrooms and a external classroom structure. The semi-transparent design of the new classroom creates new dynamic views through and around the building and site, whilst still allowing views to the existing grade II listed facade.
