FALL 2014 3 -D Character Modeling Project #1 --- Dunny Kidrobot Design
For my first character modeling design ever, I had to come up with a completely original Dunny kidrobot concept.
This process began with a series of in-class, strictly-timed thumbnail drawings. After dozens of concepts, all classmates would vote on which concepts were the strongest for each student and encouraged to go from there;
I drew a vintage rotary dial telephone with a chord attached to the back of the Dunny and receptors for the ears. I chose to proceed with this concept design and develop it further before modeling.
I encountered some bumps in the road in UV mapping everything I wanted to on the Dunny but only managed the numbers and cross on the face and the button on the chest. Still, I feel it represents my overall concept design --- an emergency robotic phone. I named it 'RED ALERT ROB'.
Further development of concept, adding a satellite on the top of the head and modifying the ears to be sirens
Further modification of concept via the back profile. Ultimately, the phone becomes chordless
