Reading Games for Kids

Each season, the children's librarians at Champaign Public Library develop reading games for kids to spark an interest in reading and keep those readers engaged and excited about spending time with books and other resources. My charge is to create a visual brand to support those efforts: a reading log (pdf and paper), signage, and online graphics, that are charming and memorable for both children and parents alike. The children's games are geared to a wide range of ages: infants through grade 5. And for the teen reading games, the audience includes both middle and high school students. I've developed flexible formats that can be easily customized and employed season after season. The owl and treehouse images featured in Fall 2014 were a favorite among families. And one summer I was delighted to spy a young teen boy sporting his reading game backpack on the way into the pool.
