Liberty - Sustainable mobility service

THE TASK

Project developed in partnership with TUM (Technisque Universität München) and USP (Universidade de São Paulo) in Global Drive program.

The team was composed by 4 germans (all mechanical engineers) and 4 brazilians (1 electrical engineer, 1 computer engineer and 2 designers). The task was to develop a prototype in 8 months on the theme of Sustainable Mobility.

Team: Danilo Saito, Arthur Murcia, Leonardo Vergueiro, Rafael Penteado, Christian Gassner, Michael Wittman, Dominik Hausruckinger and Benjamin Hackl.

CREATIVE PROCESS

As designers, we guide the team throughout the creative part of process, separating it in 5 phases: explore, definition, ideation, concept and prototype. We used different methods to stimulate the group thinking to go deep in the topic of sustainable mobility.

THE PROBLEM

Thinking in future mega cities, the perfect situation is not a city with only sustainable vehicles, with zero emissions and sustainable materials, but a city with a mobility system that promotes integration of all kinds of transports.

Only in this way people will considerate to leave their car at home and go somewhere by other types of transportation, like buses and metro. The city must promote a system more integrated and easy to be used.

Citing the phrase of Bill Ford: "Even if the vehicles we make produce zero emissions and draw from renewable energy sources, a traffic jam with clean vehicles is still a traffic jam".

THE SOLUTION

Liberty is a transportation system to provide mobility integration. It's designed to fill the gap between public transportations and destinations.

The system is a integration of different types of sharing services: a electrical scooter, a bicycle and a mini-car, supplying all kinds of distances. A sharing service integrated is easier to be used and more sustainable.

APP

Nowadays we have GPS systems that gives you what is the best route to your destination by car, by bicycle or walking.

The Liberty App is designed to gives you what's the best route considering all kinds of transportation that the city provides: subways, buses, bicycles, vehicles sharing services, etc, as long as the time to get to each station.

In this way, people will know where all these stations are located, and which one is the best option for their situation.

THE SCOOTER

As a prototype, we chose to build the scooter, as well as the app.

The Liberty Scooter has a folding mechanism providing easy transport in metros and buses and storage. There will be also connection in subways to recharge batteries while you wait to get to your destination.

It has an electrical motor to supply physical efforts and smartphone connection. When you start the scooter, all the information will be displayed on the phone, like battery charge, distance, speed, etc. In this way, we don't waste resources for building a screen for each vehicle.
