Spots of Concern - Trailer

The spotted deer or chital is an integral part of the grasslands, woodlands and forests of  mainland India. What you may not know, is that almost a thousand and half kilometers east of the mainland, in a group of islands in the Bay of Bengal, these deer thrive too. Introduced into the Andaman Islands by the British almost a century back, the spotted deer survive, surrounded by salt water, in islands small and large. In the absence of their natural predators- tigers, leopards, wild dogs, these herbivorous mammals have become invasive i.e. established and a threat to native biodiversity.
We carried out an ecological study on the spotted deer in the Andaman Islands to assess whether they posed a threat to the forests and its inhabitants- from 2011 to 2014. Through the documentary, we want to communicate the interesting findings of the study and our journey in the rainforests of these tropical islands. The documentary will serve to initiate a DISCUSSION  on the issue, beginning with scientists and the Government, in a conference we would like to host.
