Americas Cup World Series 2011

Plymouth, England.
Wednesday 14 September, 2011.
There aren't many opportunities to witness the fastest sail racing yachts in the World competing up-close-and-personal other than on television.
The Americas Cup World Series - the precursor to the Americas Cup proper - has been in Plymouth this week, with their AC45 Catamarans participating in a number of races over several days. Publicity in the city for the event has been huge, and there has been talk that it's attracted people from around the globe to witness the event.

The public have also been able to visit 'The Village' - which is, in essence, a pit lane-style centre where the yachts are stored and repaired when not racing. The Hoe - probably the most famous of sights for visitors to Plymouth - has been transformed into an entertainment centre; live music acts, a large-screen television showing live timing graphics and on-board video feeds, the television and media compound, and a realistic race simulator.
