For 50 days of the Israeli Operation Protective Edge, 2,192 Palestinians were killed, of whom 1,523 are believed to be civilians. Hamas rocket attacks and ground combat, took the life of 66 IDF soldiers and 6 Israeli civilians. During the Operation, a couple of truce were tried to be settled. During this period, people from the Gaza strip went to their houses, to salvage what they could find, some found most of their neighborhoods destroyed, others went to the port to try to fish inside the polluted waters of small port. When the hostilities started again, many looked for refuge in Al-Shifa hospitals or in schools, that in some occasions were targeted as well. After 50 days a sustained truce was agreed between the parts.
