US Currency Rebrand

With numerous countries rebranding their currency, there has been an ongoing debate on whether the United States should join the list of those as well. This was a task to hypothetically redesign US currency. I decided to go with a contemporary color and geometric focused design, much more lively and interesting than the current, far outdated design. In effort to add a story behind each one, I chose four concepts, which each stemmed a pertaining theme, which then all four had a correlating image. In circumstance to the United States, I chose to portray man’s accomplishments, what those accomplishments brought, the land to which they brought it to, as well as the greater force, and well as our future accomplishments.

$1 bill: Accomplishment of the American man – History – Mount Rushmore
$5 bill: Future endeavors as a population – Accomplishment – Space exploration
$10 bill: Affects of respective accomplishments – Freedom – Statue of Liberty
$20 bill: The land those accomplishments affected – Beauty [in nature] – North American Bald Eagle

I wanted to create something starkly different, and the first major step to that was turning the bill to a vertical design, both for aesthetic purposes, and also, there are very few people if any who exchange bills by hand holding it horizontally sideways. ‘United States of America’ would be seen across the top along with a scan-able PR-like square containing the bills information. The bottom region of the bills feature a strip of holographic material which the bills demotion. repeated throughout as well as the larger, bold numerical value of the bill, which stands by it’s own in the left-hand corner. The written out value of the bills resides on top. A much thinner strip was added just below that to both aid in counterfeiting and also as a subtle reminder of what the dollar system in its roots based on, basically a wide scale substitute for precious medals, in this case gold, as monetary trade. Small details such as Streams of low opacity repeating numbers cross the design and well as an accompanying silhouette of the continental United States. Necessary marks such as the bills number, the treasurer of the United States’ signature, The Department of Treasury’s seal, as well as that of the United States Federal Reserve were obviously included.
