BANDEROLE is an identity for a series of professional practice talks.
In art history a BANDEROLE is a representation of speech and other kinds of vocalisation. They emerged at the start of the Gothic period, appearing as actual scrolls situated next to the mouth of the speaker in a painting. This visualisation is fascinating, as it gives the spoken word a physical presence. As such it appears to materialises the fleeting nature of orality. To be sure, verbal utterances can certainly be remebered, but recording in a physical matter that is available to many offers the opportunity for multiple interpretations and critique.
