Tribute to Aoki Tetsuo

Aoki Tetuso is a Japanese woodblock printmaker who caught my eye about a year ago. His unique graphic style, clear shapes,  black and white coloring with little shading has impressive but sad tone to it.

Original prints are made during the Traditional printing techniques class while I was studying in Spain. The assignment was to choose an artist and make a tribute to their works using intaglio printing technique. We used materials which are cheap and easy to get and available in every household. I combined milk and juice cartons which have a silver surface inside. Letterpress ink can be easily removed from the silver layer so the uncut shapes stay ink free.

Final outcome after scanning the prints in and cleaning them is a little(10x6cm) folded booklet.

Thank you.
