the brief_develop packaging for a cheese to be sold in a slab form.  the packaging must stand out among competitors.  the packaging should act as a silent salesman.

 

the concept_the main idea behind luxe cheese packaging is to introduce a new range of luxury dutch cheeses. the dutch are known for their different types of gouda cheese, and hence the name luxe, which in dutch means luxurious – but is also a reference to the benelux – the famous cheese producing countries - belgium, the netherlands and luxembourg. my aim was to create packaging for a family of four cheeses that also provides the consumer with serving suggestions.  

 

the design_the idea is visually communicated through four dutch characters, namely jaap and janneke, the parents of jente and jan. the stories linked to each character provide the guideline to which snacks and drinks should accompany the cheeses so as to enjoy the full flavours and aromas of these cheeses. the pack therefore clearly explains itself through the design, words, pictures, shapes and forms.

 

this is a new way of presenting serving suggestions on packaging and therefore competes and stands out from other alternatives. the graphics and design of the packaging is visually appealing and well executed, inspired by dutch white and blue delft designs. the visuals assist the communication of the product’s benefits, which is experiencing luxury dutch cheese.
