Coffee Break
Paper coffee cups are the beginning for this series of sculptures where my goal is to to take something very simple, start something new and pay attention in case things get interesting.
The materials and processes I use belong to everybody. The project has an everydayness that brings in all the reasons for having had that cup of coffee in the first place: wake up, warm up, cool down, be together, be apart, wait, wait for good news, wait for bad news, talk, be silent, listen, remember, forget. Every sculpture then might be about a moment that is so specific you could hardly believe it if you hadn't experienced it yourself.
Shown here are 12 from an ongoing series of hundreds of sculptures. When I start to add them up, one leading to the next, they become a form of keeping time.
