Rethinking Allston Village
Along Cambridge Street in Allston Village there is a significant opportunity for redevelopment, ideally for mixed use buildings. Currently there are car washes, car shops and many dead spaces which make the street uninviting for the community. As a studio class, we made an effort to redesign the village in our 'masterplan' then we each chose a plot of land to detail as our own project for the semester. We had to keep in mind what our neighbors were planning to do with their plots of land and how we could integrate our 13 plots into one idea. We had the opportunity to present our master plans to the community and get some feedback from a few members as to how we could make our master plans 'do-able'.
We used the internal space well and kept a strong urban street wall along Cambridge Street (unlike what you see there today). Hopefully in the future the Village will see some redevelopment thanks to our ideas.
