Branding - Catalyst Computers & Electronics

This is the logo I created for my friend Luke, and his small business Catalyst specialising in custom builds, repairs and maintenance for computers, mobile phones, electronic equipment and gaming platforms.
Luke really liked the idea of incorporating a circuit board into his logo, even though I at first explored some other ideas based on the repair side of his business. I looked at tools / parts he would use regularly in his practice.
However, while these may have looked good in theory, a person could have easily confused any of these for a tool / hardware business. Even for a mechanic. Plus I am not too sure he uses a spanner, but hey, I had to try it out, LOL.

So then I tried to work out how I could include a circuit board in the logo in a simple way. I studied lots of pictures of circuit boards and did a lot of drawings until I came up with the logo. Even though I don't know what everything on a circuit board represents, as long as I could convey it, that was what was important.

The above shows the changes the logo went through.

1) It started with a solid wordmark.

2) Then lines were added at the client's request.

3) I decided the lines looked better just on the 'c'. I also kerned 'c' and 'a' closer together so the 'c' didn't look too separate from the word as a whole.

Below is the colour version.
I used the typeface Dessau in Medium, from SoftMaker, which I purchased as part of the Ultimate Font Download some years back. It's a remake of ITC Bauhaus (1974-1975) by American typographer Edward Benguiat (with Victor Caruso). It's described as "simple geometric shapes and monotone stroke weights" with "open end strokes at places where counters would be created".
The 'c' can also stand alone as its own element for use in different mediums.
The logo can even be rotated to represent a little character with his arms up.
