Business identity for astubutiikkiin.fi - a web portal for Finnish design and handicraft products

During spring 2013 Mari Moilanen, the founder of the astubutiikkiin.fi portal, contacted me about her new business idea. She was planning to launch a web portal in the autumn of 2013 so that small local design companies could have their products visible for wider range of their target groups. The portal is not only a showroom for small business companies that sell unique native design products, but also a place where the customer can easily browse through and compare different items - all in one place. The actual transaction is completed in the manufacturer's own online shop.

At first I was asked to design the logo and some marketing materials. The idea for my design took shape from good old foundation stones on what buildings used to be built on - a hint of traditional craftsmanship. The customer can make great new discoveries among the multiplicity of all products, so that's part of why the highlight color ended up to be bright green.

The portal needed to be properly marketed in order to maintain business contacts. For marketing purposes I designed infographic illustrations, business cards and a flyer. I created a pattern that has been used along the way. For a few occasions there was also a need for a playful typeface, so I gave it a go.

The launch event took place in the premises of MadeBy Helsinki store in the Tori Quarters. A beautiful assortment of Finnish design and handicraft products were sold at the event, straight from the manufacturers who had decided to take part in the astubutiikkiin.fi portal.

At this point the website was being built by the Finnish advertising agency Doop. I designed the website layout and Doop handled the technical implementation. In the course of time the layout has been living it's life to fulfill the needs of the customer and some new ideas have been generated, too.

Up here is an example of how the participating companies can introduce themselves at astubutiikkiin.fi. There are flexible columns for contact and company info along with an optional column for listing retailers. Upcoming events can be added to the event section.

I wanted to give a touch of craft for the website, so for the background I created a paper texture from my own faithful paper stash. The same idea followed in the Valentine's Day event ad and in the Christmas greeting card for business partners and social media channels.
