Documentary Photography: Tips by Mads Nissen Reflection

There were several things that resonated with me after watching the video documentary, "Photography: Tips by Mads Nissen". The first thing was how he mentioned not staging photos and capturing the moments as they happen. I'm someone who tends to lean more towards street photography, so I relate to this in my own work. I also like how he said that the people being photographed are humans and should be treated as such. It's easy for a photographer to look at the subjects being photographed as objects rather than people. I have learned over the years to not do that as I found myself guilty of it early on. Another thing I enjoyed hearing him talk about was lighting. I'm slowly starting to understand the importance of lighting in my own work. Now when I go out, I'm always conscious about lighting and ways I can use it to abstract a scene. Lastly, I like how he stated that his work isn't good enough if he isn't emotionally engaged with it. I feel that is the most important part of a photo documentary.
