Unveiling the Potential Sleeper QB of the 2024 Season

Written by Michael Ramsay April 10, 2024

VIRGINIA, BLACKSBURG -- Among the great offseason traditions in college football is hunting for a team that might shock us in the future. The squad is constantly sought after - a sleeper group or maybe a dark horse rival.

Finding those teams has typically involved an excellent close to the year and a great schedule in the following. That is precisely why a lot of these discussions include Virginia Tech as a university. It was a corner turn following a 2-4 start in the 2023 season which saw the Hokies lose Purdue, Rutgers, and Marshall before being spanked by Florida State. Virginia Tech won five of its last seven games, easing past Wake Forest and Syracuse, and defending champions Boston College, Virginia, and Tulane in a soaking Military Bowl.

Although Vanderbilt has nonconference contests and rematches with Marshall and Rutgers, just the road tilt with the Commodores remains. And so there is the road trip to Miami first for conference play and then a home match against Clemson but absolutely no Florida State. There's simply no NC State. There's simply no Notre Dame (it isn't a college match -- you still would rather avoid the Fighting Irish). Lots of winnable games to follow last year's 7-5 record along with a surprise visit to the ACC Championship Game.

However, beyond that, there's an extra factor making the Hokies mad. He is Kyron Drones and despite last season's events and what 2024 holds, Drones' development and evolution as Hokies' starting quarterback can decide the Hokies' season this season.

What Can Be Expected at the Virginia Tech Football Spring Game?

Written by Michael Ramsay April 10, 2024

VIRGINIA, BLACKSBURG -- It may seem like two months from Virginia Tech knocking Tulane 41-20 in the Military Bowl. That is right, nearly two months all in all. It has been a minute but it's

With regards to Hokies spring practice, there are lots of valid reasons for being excited about the program, given all the talk. Brent Pry is currently in his third season as chief executive and has now mostly managed the reconstruction since Justin Fuente left the business. This was Virginia Tech's very first season going 3-8 and this season has begun out rough dropping 3 of the first four games (all non-conference) however things began to become exciting when ACC play began.

Finals - the Hokies concluded the season on an impressive note going 5-3 to earn playoff choice at 6-6 and defeated the Green Wave. Much more significant compared to the game was the additional practices Pry and his team had because of their team getting an early start in 2024. During this time, Virginia Tech obtained commitments from several key contributors to return next season, such as quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshu Tuten.

In the fall, Virginia Tech last month brought some newcomers on campus together with transfer players who could play each side of the ball.

Some schools begin practice the following week, though Sports Illustrated reported that Virginia Tech will begin practicing March 16, the sole school that morning. It ought to be a fascinating month of practice to find out how folks can perform and what certain looks like 4 months out from today.

Virginia Tech Football: Building Momentum and Securing Talent for the 2024 Season

Written by Michael Ramsay April 10, 2024

VIRGINIA, BLACKSBURG -- Coach Brent Pry has given Virginia Tech a promising chance to continue progressing in their third year under his leadership.

The Hokies have the potential to be ranked in the top 25 before the start of the 2024 season. Virginia Tech's success last season, which marked its first winning season in four years, has greatly boosted morale in Blacksburg.

The only concern for the Hokies is their defensive line as they seek to improve the inside of the front. Kyron Drones is the breakout quarterback for that unit and returns as the central force behind Virginia Tech's whole starting offense.

Brent Pry, the football coach at Virginia Tech, has enjoyed a successful past few weeks. Pry and the Hokies are focused on ending the season on a high note before the early signing period for high school recruits and have been actively meeting with potential transfer players. Many players have been utilizing the transfer portal since it became available at the beginning of the month. Montavious Cunningham, a new addition to the Virginia Tech football team and former offensive tackle at Georgia State, has the potential to become a starter for the team.

However, the Hokies have been successful in keeping their players since the regular season ended. In the current age, coaches are required to consistently recruit players for their teams every year. The transfer portal means that other teams are free to sign your top players if they wish. Pry and his staff at Virginia Tech have succeeded in retaining their top players despite the fierce competition of the NIL in VT.

Da'Quan Felton, Ali Jennings, Jaylin Lane, and Stephen Gosnell will all be back as wide receivers for the upcoming season. Kyron Drones, the team's quarterback, announced his return. Antwaun Powell-Ryland is going to come back as a defensive end, while Josh Fuga is going to return as a defensive tackle. Running back Bhayshul Tuten is expected to return as well, with confidence.
