Belfast Met - Art and Design End of Year Show

An annual art gallery to showcase the work of final year graphic design and fine art students, a chance for them to both celebrate and be introduced to the wider art community. In 2021 during lockdown I was tasked with creating a mock website for an online exhibition that year as part of my final project; the mock brief included designing a logo, website and adverting. 

When designing the logo I wanted something minimalist to stay in line with current trends and so that it would look good both on large and small scale. The typography was hand drawn in adobe illustrator and this gave more freedom to shape the i into a ruler and create a path point control handle to better visually pair the two words together. This is an exhibition for both digital and physical art, the logo was created to represent that.

The final design prioritized easy navigation with only two sections and a clean aesthetics. I had made several readjustments according to client feedback and peer reviews, they said the previous design had been cluttered with too many sections.

That this would be too much choice for an art gallery targeted at primarily students and their families who might be discouraged from viewing the entire gallery if it was split into too many sections. With target audience in mind peer reviews also suggested that the feedback questionaire could include more multiple choice questions for better engagement.

My inspiration for this website came from researching Rijksmuseum's online exhibition, a design I improved upon with larger font to improve legibility and be more user friendly. The Design Show was built and hosted by Wix.com because they had a 50% discount of £4.25 per month (in 2021), which included hosting and a free domain for the first year. Belfast Met's annual show was a small scale event and so the client wanted to consider low budget options.

An Artist Catalogue, Instagram Countdown, back and front of an Invite Card, and A Poster. Vibrant colours and abstract designs were used to better represent the broad range of work at this gallery.
