Juliette is a year old Jersey cow who had been chained to a tree with heavy chains by a farmer who was raising her for meat in Rockland County, NY. She had been kept chained, with no shelter, since she was one week old. Neighbors witnessed she was repeatedly in distress during heavy storms, tangled in her chains, and unable to move. The farmer was angered when the neighbors confronted him, and threatened to kill her. Luckily, a caring animal control officer was able to convince the farmer to give up custody, and she is now safe at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Poolesville, MD. She is very bonded to another male calf rescued from the same situation, and tries to hide underneath her male friend. Juliette now lives with other 12 rescued cows and spends her days running, playing, and grazing on the sanctuary's 400 acres.
