Combining two cultures into one product through packaging: Cultures Collide. "Delight" is a Chinese-French wine and moon cake gift set that I created and designed to reflect both cultures in the packaging of the final product.

The word "Delight" can be interpreted in both English and French as happiness. The word in Chinese means, "the shining moon," but it is also related to drinking wines and liquor. Also, the character itself, in Chinese, means "drinks and drinking" which relates to the wine but the sound of the word means "moon," a double meaning. This links the components of the final piece, the wine, moon cake, and name, together.

I chose French culture because I am fascinated with French landscapes, fashion, and overall style of the country. They also have a distinct historical culture and are distinct a leaders in the fashion and design world. In China, there is an old saying, “People regard food as their heaven”. Food is one of most important things to people’s lives. It is not just to satisfy hunger; it is also an experience, a culture and something that connects us to family and friends.

The overall target audience of the moon cakes is a younger market, and I tried to accomplish this by infusing traditional Asian and French floral motifs with modernistic design elements.
