STORY
A man sits down to enjoy his sadya. As he is about to dig in he
notices something is missing. He hadn’t been served a banana! He looked
around and found that sure enough everyone had a banana with their
sadya except him. He calls out the server but to no avail. As he thinks
about getting his hands on a banana, he looks up and sees a banana
tree over him. He tries and tries hard to get the fruit down, he even
climbs the tree, but could not get one. As he finally sits back on
his chair, he notices that the sadya had been cleared away. With his head
in hands, he starts weeping as a banana from the tree above hits him
on the head. We were tasked with making a short animated film
while following the animation pipeline - preproduction, production and postproduction.

Research pictures from my backyard
The idea for this short film came to me when I was talking to my grandfather, who told me a story about people who slip into functions to eat sadya (a meal they serve during special occasions in Kerala) for free. These people are often ignored by the servers whenever its time to eat, and in some cases, are thrown out. Etiquette during eating sadya is something that has always fascinated me. A banana is served on the sadya, as a sweet treat, which helps aid in digestion as well. Whenever I attend a function and eat sadya, I notice people stuffing the leftover bananas in their handbags to take them back home and have later. So, by combining both these ideas I drafted a story about a man who is so fixated with the missing banana on his sadya, that he doesn't get to eat the sadya itself! Sadya is a meal of Kerala origin and of importance to all Malayalis, consisting of a variety of traditional vegetarian dishes usually served on a banana leaf in Kerala as lunch. Sadya means banquet in Malayalam.
