. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁FOMU is a project I worked on with my friend, Noni. In our experimental design course, we were tasked to create new materials from either organic or non-organic substances that already exist. We decided to choose a non-organic material which is a foam net, commonly used to protect fruits in supermarket. Considering that foam nets are usually thrown away after a single use, we thought it was the perfect material to be tested in experiments in attempt to turn them into something more usable/wearable.
Fashion is a huge passion for both of us (me & Noni), so when we had the chance to use the result of our material exploration to something fashion related, we jumped at the opportunity to design a handbag. It's a statement piece made from a unique base material (the recycled foam net), decorated with one of a kind colorful pattern (also made from recycled foam net), and is capable of carrying loads of over 5 Kg. The bag also comes with handmade beads charm keychain that compliments the bag.

During our exploration and experiment with the material, we stumbled upon some unique characteristics of the foam net. After layering it with the aid of heat press, the foam net became sturdy, tear-resistant, yet still retained its flexibility. We soon realized that these unique traits presents exciting new opportunities to be used as product development. In addition to heat press layering, we also discovered a method for infusing vibrant colors into the foam net sheet using acrylic paint.
The biggest thank you for Avirra, who modeled and helped me for this photoshoot!
