Infographic: How to Press a Flower

Problem:
I was tasked with creating an infographic illustrating a 5-step process. The process itself had to be unique, and I also had to avoid using words at all costs!
Inspiration: How to Press a Flower
My infographic demonstrates the simple process of how to press a flower.
I wanted my infographic to diverge from traditional graphic styles used for floral designs and showcase a more edgy, eclectic aesthetic. This led me to draw inspiration from vintage floral graphics. In the 60s and 70s, flower graphics were abstracted into simple shapes and utilized bright, bold colors. To capture this unique style in my moodboard, I sought out moody and expressive colors. Bold typography was also a priority for inspiring my infographic title—I wanted something that could convey a natural and organic texture.
Target audience:
- Young adults who love a good aesthetic
- Older adults who love gardening (grew up in the 60s or 70s)

Process:
For my layout sketches, I knew that I wanted the base of my infographic to feature a flower with the steps portrayed on the flower’s petals or leaves. After receiving feedback from my classmates, I decided to go with the first layout sketch that utilized leaves for display of the tutorial. We decided that this concept was the strongest visually and also was the best use of space.

For the typography, My focus was to create a legible title that subtly incorporated floral elements. The first concept was chosen due to its type-centered simplicity.

For my graphic illustrations, I focused on streamlined and minimalistic icons that would convey the information in the clearest way possible.

Growth:
The biggest challenge and point of growth for me was utilizing the gradient and transparency panels to create noise texture. Prior to this project, I had never used either of these tools to create noise, so it was a great skill to gain!
