SUNKN — LIMITED EDITION bone sculptures

In 2014 we remember the beginnings of "the great war" now in its 100th year , i wanted to make something...
The first world war was a trench "close-quarters" warfare, terrible conditions to live and fight in. From the pictures they show you can see many decaying bodies in the trenches that have merged with the soil.
This mental picture was the general inspiration for what became the SUNKN project.

I always remeberd this story about acient japanese burrial traditions (budist) where the family is responseble for disposing of the dead body. Those bodies were burried in shallow graves (and ofen reused) or were just left behind, at the bank of a river leaving the corpse exposed. The japanese called this SUTEBAKA.
The "femur" bone was the perfect shape to represent the project second intention, to make it practical.
When tou look at the structure of the femur you'll see the proporties of a hook especially when its at an slanted angle. When put against the wall at an angle the illusion is created that its not mearly attachted to the wall but that the object resurfaced, hence the titel SUNKN.
The skull really reflects character and human presents, from my point of view the most beautifull part of the body.
I own a cast of a real human skull so reference wasn't a problem it was just a lot more nuance then a single bone
After printing and mold making the model is still quit difficult to manage, the surface detail makes it hard to release from the mold and requires a lot more finishing after it's fully cured. When mounted it really stands out.
The packaging should showcase the minimal design approach for the project. With a structual safe cardboard box to safly transport the objects, additional bubble-wrap is provided to make it even more impact proof.
With every object a screw and plug is provided to mount it after you recieved it
Machine-cut black lables decorate the box, packaging should be as nice as the objects inside of them.
The objects are individualy casted with a resin called PC-026, when its exposed to UV-light it will change color to  from a broken white (initial casting tone) to a bone like beige-yellow tone. The resin is mixed before every casting so the resulting colors change constanly, some even have a pink hue before they change to the bone color...
A black screw is embedded in the bone. Once a hole is drilled and a plug is inserted you just turn it in place.
I really like the way my Marshall headphones look on the SUNKN bone, like they're made for eachother...
The skull has a hole in the back but also can be hung from the eye-socket or nose-cavity (dramatic)
