Snapshots of an America in Recovery Mode Visual journalism

I spent a good part of 2011 collaborating on creating a series of infographics that highlighted economic conditions in the United States. During this time, most of America was in a shaky economic recovery that was in a state of flux: lower tax receipts in most areas due to high unemployment led to spending cuts at the state and local levels in many cases. Talk of a federal government shutdown and the lowering of the U.S.' credit rating at the time didn't help elevate the national mood.

Each of these infographics involved first doing extensive research and gleaning public and private data sources in search of a good story, then experimenting with visuals to create a compelling narrative. The process from research to publication took roughly a full week for each piece - balancing timeliness with accuracy.
