OLD PROJECT Red Robbin' Hood

Red Robbin' Hood
This is Red Robbin' Hood, a character remix of Red Riding Hood and Robin Hood re-imagined as a thief character for an RPG. This build was created in 3Ds Max and edited in Mudbox. My renders were then composited in Photoshop. This build is utilizes hair and fur, pelt mapping, and spline-extrusion geometry. The clothing was built using the Garment Maker and cloth plugins. Renders were done using mental ray and 3Ds Max's Lighting plugin. Rigging of the body, clothing, and facial expressions was completed using Max's Biped and Morpher plugins and bones. This build won't be exported to an engine yet, and is still strictly high-poly. The final poly count for the build is 88320.
Here's a basic standing pose holding a prop weapon I created for the build. The lighting was all done in Mental ray and I composited several passes in Photoshop using color burn and dodge layers to achieve a really dramatic look for this pose, particularly in the shadows within the hood.
A close-up detail shot of RRH in the same pose as above. You can see there is some unwelcome deformation in the belt, due to tesselated triangular geometry. Overall, Garment maker was kind of a mixed bag in this build. Some of  the clothing built with it, like the hood and scarf, turned out phenomenally. On the other hand, for most of the other clothing I will likely go a different route on my next build.
I'm really happy with this composition as a whole. This really shows off the rigging and morphing I achieved in this build in a dramatic way. I went for a kind of fantasy epic feel with this, and it turned out the best, in my opinion, of any of my previous takes on the character. There are a few areas where the enveloping on the clothing is a little strange, and I'm not totally happy with the highlights I got on the axe head. As a whole, though, this really shows off everything I think I did right in this character build. Composited in Photoshop with ambient occlusion passes and a color burn layer to create dramatic shadows and highlights.
As a more fun pose, I wanted to create a Gil Elvgren "pin-up girl" inspired composition. I used ink outlines and overlay layers to soften the lighting while improving color contrast.
A second take on the Elvgren look. I added a color dodge layer to this composition to achieve the strong highlights present in a lot of the pin-up art.
This was my initial character pose render. I was more or less experimenting with the boundaries of my rigging and testing expressions. Overall I'm happy with the majority of the rigging and morphing, though I have some enveloping particularly in the lower torso that was difficult to work with.
