This typeface was created based on my impression and somewhat objective perception of the state and the people residing here. I drew inspiration from juxtaposing Roman and Gothic influences, resulting in a modernized square-ish marriage of the two. The Roman influences stand for Indiana's strong sense of tradition and strong conservative values. Meanwhile, the Gothic influences hint at the slow but steady evolution of liberal thought and self-expression and the overall openness that sans-serif typefaces possess.
The condensed look of the letterforms creates a sturdy silhouette which in combination with the lack of contrast (and details like flat apex and vertex) are symbolic of practicality and straightforwardness. There are absolutely no sharp edges, which stands for the warm-hearted and hospitable nature of the state's residents.
