Typographic Illustration / Playing Cards

Final product. Process follows. Additional final product images at bottom.
TASK
Create a set of playing cards designed entirely from one typeface.
Typeface characters could be rotated, flipped, resized, repeated and transformed similarly as long as there was no alteration
of the forms or proportions (no bastardizing the characters with stretching etc). No other set limitations.
Concept, typeface, etc were all by choice.

CONCEPT
 Psychadelic 70s

TYPEFACE CHOSEN
Caslon Black Swash / Benguiat Caslon

FINAL CONCEPT
Create skulls entirely from my chosen typeface, give them a ‘70s design flare, and then emphasize the psychedelic theme with optical psychedelic colors and a psychedelic style pattern for the back of all the cards. Cards would be reflective of the time period as the rise of punk and psychedelic ‘70s was occurring simultaneously.
This deck is all about rebellion. This is the Deck of Funk Punk.
PROCESS WORK
At the beginning of the project, I just had fun trying to figure out what kind of imagery I'd create with the typeface.  At this point I had not yet stumbled upon typographic skulls.
Pattern motif
Then I found my way to funky skulls. Development below.
