My Ma is a Person

I sketched my mother while we were both sitting on the couch without a thought. She was there, she was my Ma, what more would I need? And upon cleaning it up, as I clarified the details of her figure and surroundings, I can see it laid, so plain and simple, by my own pencil stroke, that she is a person. She has a favorite drink and a furry companion and a favorite show, just like I do. Two separate but true statements and one surprisingly hidden fact. She is my Ma. She is her own Person. She is both.
