Check Out These Glyph Compositions!

The final result! A photoshop mockup of my two compositions.
These glyph compositions were for a project in a Typography class. My assignment was to create two unique designs: one using a serif font and the other using a sans-serif font. Both designs would be made exclusively of glyphs from each respective typeface, either pure black or white. The goal was to create interesting negative space and a good focal point.
My first round of sketches. Can you tell which designs I chose for the final compositions?
After an initial round of sketches, I picked my favorite designs and recreated them digitally. After that, I played around with them until I got the final compositions!
My serif design using Stempel Garamond Roman glyphs! This composition went through the most changes throughout the design process. Every letter shifted around until it looked just right in this final.
My sans-serif composition using Neue Haas Grotesque Bold glyphs. Much closer to its initial sketch, with some tweaks were made to give it a bigger focal point.
