DESIGNING WITH GLYPHS
THE PROJECT:
BYUI ART230 - TYPOGRAPHY - P01
Create two abstract compositions using only black & white letterforms/glyphs.  The parameters of the project are to use 5 to 8 glyphs, one in a san serif typeface - Neue Haas Grotesque Bold, and the other in a serif typeface - Stempel Garamond Roman.

Additional guidelines: Identify 5 different anatomical parts of the glyphs in each composition.  Illustrate good design principles including: focal point, balance, use of negative space, hierarchy, and unity & variety.
The project mock-up shows the two compositions side-by-side and conveys the unique differences between the san serif and serif typefaces.  I angled both typefaces the same direction so the compositions would feel like a pair.  The hierarchy in both compositions adds variety, while the use of a single font in each composition creates unity.  The alignment of the fonts and the use of negative space creates balance.
SAN SERIF COMPOSITION IN Neue Haas Grotesque Bold
The font anatomy represented: eye, stem, counter, bowl, & stroke.
The focal point is the letter "R" and is accomplished by use of negative space.

serif composition in Stemple Garamond Roman
The font anatomy represented: eye, stem, counter, tittle, & arm.
The focal point is the tittle/dot on the letter "i" because it is a central point inside of the circle of the letter "O" .
