POLI
Fruit & Experience Design
POLI is a fruit & experience design project. In the future, when space travel becomes frequent, it is envisioned to produce fruit from purees in space.
When i started the research process, i chose 5 adjectives. These are; juicy, crumbly, acidic, fizzy and intoxicating. With these adjectives, i determined three tastes; Pomegranate, lime and mint. I aimed to design a fruit that changes our mood when we eat it. I chose pomegranate, lemon and mint because of their sharp flavors. My goal is to design a fruit that mood changer.
Pomegranate is a fruit that is hard to eat in the world. I expect it to be more difficult in space. I aimed to simplify this eating process and designed single bite pomegranate cells. Also, combined these cells with an edible stem.
After the cells of pomegranate and lime were eaten, it was planned to eat the mint stem, which has a more soothing taste.
The way we eat this fruit is very similar to grapes. The only difference is that the stem of POLI is also edible.
A 3D printed mock-up was made to better understand the size and texture. The stem is made of TPU filament, which has a flexible structure, while the cells are made of PLA. Also, handmade juice was prepared to describe the feeling of POLI while eating.
