Part of the Order vs Chaos series exploring conflict, paradox, dichotomy and contradiction. Experimental piece inspired by images of atomic particle tracks, Zeno’s Paradox of the Arrow and Heisenberg’s Uncertainty principle. Image includes randomised linear and Golden ratio curves.

Zeno’s Paradox of the Arrow:
During its flight an arrow in any one instant is in one place. Therefore it must always be at rest. If at every random point in the arrow’s flight it is motionless, how can it fly through the air? Could it be that consciousness puts together the pieces and creates the perception of movement? Therefore motion would only exist in the mind.

Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle:
You can know the position of a particle accurately or the momentum. But not both simultaneously. Like the Paradox of Zeno’s Arrow, a snapshot in time provides no detail as to movement or momentum. It appears static and at rest.
