Designing and developing mobile apps for the global leader in broadband testing
Background
With over 5 million internet speed tests performed each day through their website and mobile apps, Ookla Speedtest has become the gold standard in measuring network performance. Our challenge was to define a new visual language across mobile and web.
What we did
We were exploring UX and aesthetic directions for the new Speedtest.net website when we were asked to switch over to designing their mobile apps. The visual language we had defined for the web transitioned seamlessly to mobile thanks to a device agnostic approach.
We designed apps for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, and developed the Android app. As part of the engagement, we created a set of UI templates for NetGauge, a white-label solution based on the Speedtest technology.
Result
Ookla’s mobile apps have been downloaded by tens of millions of users and garnered positive feedback across app stores. We were also excited to see the redesigned app make a cameo in Iron Man 3.
