I've had an opportunity to collaborate with Animals Wave on another streetwear apparel print design. This time the brief revolved around a dragon influenced by traditional eastern art but with a modern twist. Intended to be paired with another print in the series, a tiger.
Some illustration process insight ahead:
Composition got developed in a thumbnail size first to discuss creative decisions I made. Once approved I moved on to inking the full sized illustration. Started with the dragon's head to locate the main focal point on the sheet. Next - I inked the front paws and began working on the loops of its scaled body. Kept on moving towards the tail until I was ready to black out the background.
Once the piece got scanned and vectorized - it got accompanied with some separately prepared clouds and printed on the garments.
