For Art History 203, we had the option of either writing a 10 page essay or doing a reproduction of a piece we covered in class. I decided to do a reproduction of André Derain’s Mountains at Collioure. The bulk of the project was to recreate it as faithfully in process as the original and I must admit I took some shortcuts. My painting is downsized (though it retains the same ratio) and painted with acrylic instead of oil paint. I was told I was not allowed to use any grid or tracing materials, and, given that, I think it turned out pretty faithfully.
Initial colour isolation, landmarking the important bits, and mixing my greens and blues to cover the variety from the original.
