Stylish Strings
Ansley J. Reed
I love making art that reflects specific periods of time in my life to remember them well. This was the driving force behind the creation of my stylish strings. I used string art techniques to fashion two art pieces, one in the shape of an airplane, and one in the shape of the Berry College Logo. These symbols both mean a lot to me. I recently started ground school to work toward my Private Pilot's license, so I chose the shape of an airplane to signify this. I love Berry and cherish my time here, so I chose the logo in order to help me remember my time in college well.
For this project, I began both pieces with a block of wood, painted and prepped the pieces, and then hammered nails into the shapes of the Berry Logo and airplane using reference photos. After this, I began to wrap the strings around the nails to make the overall outline. Then, I went back in with different colors and filled in the outline by wrapping the strings in no particular order. As time went on, I learned new techniques and better ways of wrapping that were more time-efficient and led to a better final product.
