Capt. Jack Russell

CAPT. JACK RUSSELL, inspired by my Jack Russell, Darwin. Painted entirely in Photoshop CS5 with a Wacom Intuous. I used 3D models for parts of the boat and wheel, but I ended up painting completely over the models since they weren't nearly as detailed as I wanted--they just ended up being references. From sketch to completion there are probably 80 hours here. This is done on a 16x20 canvas at 300dpi so it can be printed poster size.
My wife took this photo one morning at an apartment we used to live at. I woke up like this a lot and this photo stuck with me as an extra cute picture of Darwin. One time while looking at it I remarked "Doesn't it look like he's on a ship looking out to sea or something?" and that pretty much planted the seed.
The defining sketch, just pencil and paper. This was scanned in as a .tiff at 300dpi, and used under the painting as a reference.
